あなたの欲しい答えは、その一枚の中に在る / 存在認知（ストローク）

各々のポートレートの中に、ご本人が欲しかった答えが在るためには、様々を削ぎ落とし、撮影者である私の感情や思考をのせない撮影スタイルに努めることですが、信頼関係の構築はある程度必要なため、状況によっては非言語の他にも最低限の言語的コミュニケーションが必要となります。

私は35年にわたり1対1のポートレートを撮影していますが、初めましての人とその場で信頼関係を構築することは未だ簡単なことではなく、そこには実際にシャッターを切るという行動と同じくらい多くのエネルギーを消費します。

完成されるであろうものをイメージし全体のバランスを感じながら、自分にも被写体となる人にも嘘のないシャッターを切るよう、日々努めています。

“The answer you seek lies within that one frame / Recognition of existence (stroke)”

For each portrait to contain the very answer the person has been searching for, I must strip away all excess and refrain from projecting my own emotions or thoughts into the image. While I strive for a shooting style free from my personal imprint, a certain level of trust must still be built. Depending on the situation, this may require minimal verbal communication in addition to nonverbal cues.

I have been photographing one-on-one portraits for 35 years, but building trust with someone I’ve just met is still never easy. It demands as much energy as the act of pressing the shutter itself.

I constantly work to press the shutter with honesty—both to myself and to the person before the lens—while holding a vision of what the final image might become and maintaining a sense of overall balance.
